Broadcast / Cable Case Study: Newsmax Media

Newsmax Media

Newsmax Media, commonly called Newsmax, is an American news media organization founded by Christopher Ruddy and based in West Palm Beach, Florida. It operates the news website Newsmax.com, publishes the Franklin Prosperity Report and Newsmax magazine, and runs cable news channel Newsmax TV distributed on Direct TV, DISH and Verizon FIOS.

Mobile Studios was selected as the systems integrator  for their new studio located in Boynton Beach, Florida. The contract included delivery of all components , installation and  integration between their production control room, engineering racks and studio. NewsMax had planned to use the facilities of WXEL, a South Florida public TV station as a temporary location for its studio while awaiting the build-out of a permanent studio, and chose Mobile Studios in part because of our ability to deliver a portable  “PortaCast” system that could be easily removed to their permanent studios and re-purposed as a portable system for covering remote events after the move to a permanent studio.  Mobile Studios was awarded the contract in mid-December 2013 and was given only 3 weeks  to source, install and test all equipment for the first show scheduled for broadcast on January 7, 2014.  Pulling out all the stops, Mobile Studios delivered and installed all products in time for a successful first broadcast on January 7, 2014.

The NewsMax production room in Boyton Beach includes a Mobile Studios PortaCast Deluxe Console equipped with a ROSS Video 2ME Vision switcher, ROSS 2 Channel xPression Graphics Server, 4 Channel ClearCom intercom, Panasonic remote camera controls, teleprompter controls, wall-mounted monitors, Skype Interface, 32 channel audio mixer, telephone hybrids and connectivity to the talent studio via a customized fiber optic system built by Tactical Fiber Systems.

The engineering racks include Digilink encoders/decoders and FOR-A frame-syncs to enable live multi-camera connectivity and communcations between their Boynton Beach, Florida and New York City studios.

Four Panasonic AG-HPX500 camera chains with studio build-ups on Vinten tripods were also provided and installed by Mobile Studios.

NewsMax Broadcasting is on the air live from 12PM to 10PM  Monday – Friday Eastern Time. Watch NewsMax TV online at  www.newsmaxtv.com
